Music Review

James Simms; Life and Love
REVIEW: ***** (5) knocks

Every so often you come across an album featuring an artist who many people don't really know about but for some reason the music induces this viral affect on you that makes you want to share it. James Simms has produced three albums on his own so far but on his recent outing, James outdoes himself and proves that he is "Gargage Band/Pro Tools" master with "Life and Love [Hip, Rock, Soul Pt. 1]. This project features more of James's fusion of gospel, hip-hop, rock/neo-soul and R & B and is the type of album you'll like to play in your car [really loud] or to get you amped up for a great workout. This album has inspirational cuts but would be great for pre-service time too.

You will automatically begin to nod your head within a few seconds when you hear the opening track "I Got You [Life & Love] as the guitar and opening chants from James segue into a thumping beat. James admonishes listeners to use their God given gifts on "Around the World" which almost has a vintage bluesy kind of feel and sings passionately about the cry from lost souls on "Save My Life". The inspirational anthem tune "Reaching for Me" which debuted on the SFC fundraiser album, Reality Anthems, finds itself on this disc along with a personal portrait of God's grace on "Your Grace". Taking a nod from some of the roots of Be Be and Ce Ce Winans' brand of Christian music, James deals with relationships on songs like "Beautiful As You".

There are many things unique about James - he plays all the instruments on this project. He wrote all the songs on this project and produced all the songs on this project. He also sings background vocals on this project. Currently a full time student at Gateway College of Evangelism, The Commune-ity is proud of this young Apostolic making a difference with his music.
