Book Review ![]() Book: Spiritual Leadership Spiritual Leadership is a book by Henry and Richard Blackaby that offers much into the concept of church leadership. I’m about to make a bold statement: I would consider this book to be a top ten book for me. I’m well aware of the fact that timing has a lot to do with the amount of impact a book has on someone, but this book really worked well for me when I read it. The subtitle of the book sums up the big thought very well: “Moving people on to God’s agenda.” Spiritual Leadership is not a new read nor is it a short read. Its 306 pages will challenge you, yet not bog you down with detailed minutia that causes a loss of interest. Broadman and Holman published this work in 2001, but if you’ve ever read anything by Henry Blackaby, you know that his work is becoming timeless. In an era of time in which leadership books are as common as cactus in West Texas, this book stands distinct. It’s not so much about telling you how to lead better as much as it is about telling you how to align your leadership with what God is trying to accomplish through you. We all know that when we align our giftings with God’s will, great things happen and history is changed! Through chapters like The Leader’s Challenge, The Leader’s Role, The Leader’s Preparation, and others, the authors explain how God actually develops leaders. Instead of focusing on how to develop yourself, they walk you through the process of allowing God to develop you. I would, without hesitation, recommend Spiritual Leadership for any leader in training. Russ Cripps is a creative writer, thinker and Associate Pastor from Austin, Texas.
